Welcome
to FY Designs! We are so pleased you chose us to create your
perfect competition dress. Lets get started!
Step
One: Choose your bodice and your skirt.
Choose from one-piece or two-piece and then pick your panel style
(3-panel, 4-panel, center wrap). When you look through the gallery of completed dresses, you will see examples of each.
Step Two: Choose your Design
An FY Designs Catalog can be ordered for a deposit of $10 that will be applied towards the purchase of any design. Contact Molly for a catalog.
Most designs/styles
can be transferred to another style without too much difficulty
(wraps into 3-panels,
or
4-panels into wraps, etc.). Try not to get too focused on the details.
Just look for designs that catch your fancy. The style is relatively
easy to manipulate, the design is the tough part. Designs can be
modified to fit the style and wishes of the dancer. Choose up
to 3 dresses that
you like.
Step Three: Choose your color
Give me an idea of what colors you want. The latest trends lean toward
one to two colors with black, white or both. If you would like help
with color selection, I would be more than happy to help. I will digitally
color the dresses you have selected and give you a chance to see the
different effects produced by color selection. Choose your favorite.
If it is perfect as is...your design is complete. If you would like
to make some minor edits, I will modify and re-color. Once you have
chosen the final design, I will design the back and the cape to your
specifications.
Step Four: Choose your Fabric
For a small additional fee I will help you choose the perfect fabrics
to compliment the design. I have spent hundreds of hours searching
locally and internationally for unique and amazing fabrics. If you
would like to choose your own fabrics, I will offer my guidance and
will work with your dressmaker. Many times a fabric is lovely but it
simply will not be flattering to the dancer, the design, or from a
distance. As you will tell from Step Three, fabrics and colors can
drastically change the look of the design. I want to make sure that
the final dress is not only a good fit for the dancer, but a good fit
for the stage, as well.
Step Five: Scheduling and Design Payment
Payment for the design is due. I will reserve the design for you for
up to two weeks while we try to make it work with what you want. Once
you have selected a final design, or at the end of two weeks, please
make arrangements for payment directly with me. If you reserve the
design for two weeks and cannot decide at the end of that time, the
design will be put back in the catalog and open to the next dancer
that is interested. Designs are first-come first-served.
No design will be repeated for another dancer.
Any
questions please email Molly.
